Hotel Pontotoc
Location: Downtown Memphis, TN
Project Type: Hospitality
Built in 1906, The Pontotoc is a modest masonry building that quietly reflects early 20th‑century Memphis. Its stone‑and‑brick façade is unadorned yet solidly constructed, showing care in craftsmanship. Inside, much of the original character remains intact: carefully restored woodwork, exposed brick walls, and preserved period details that give the spaces texture and history. Over the years it has housed a social club and a bathhouse; today it operates as a boutique hotel that intentionally preserves and celebrates those accumulated layers. Ten individually furnished rooms thoughtfully blend original architectural features with modern comforts and conveniences. The Dame, the downstairs bar, conjures the feel of a dim, intimate speakeasy. The Pontotoc stands as an example of Memphis’s durable architecture and warm, local character.
